MonkeyFist Brands

In the spring of 1982 ten year old Daniel Edwards lost his left hand in a lawn mower accident. Just days following the accident, Dr. Joseph Gilhooley made history by attaching an orangutan hand to Edwards. Defying the odds, the transplant proved successful, until nine months later when young Daniel's body suddenly rejected the foreign organ, forcing doctors to remove it. Atrophy of the muscles had caused the hand to clench up in a fist-like manner.

During this nine month period Danny was often teased and called a variety of nicknames. One being "MonkeyFist".

26 years later MonkeyFist is launched.

Nice collection of monkeys for your body

Keith Richards by Annie Leibowitz

Keith Richards has been photographed by Annie Leibowitz for the latest Louis Vuitton ad, and his involvement in the campaign makes sense—if you’re selling leather bags, why not hire one, too?

First Aid Kit

In 2006, Johnson and Johnson turned to Harry Allen & Associates to re-design the First Aid Kit. Although it is one of J&J窶冱 most iconic products, after years of cost engineering the First Aid Kit had been reduced to a disposable clear plastic case - gone were the memorable designs of yesteryear. The design brief was simple, give the First Aid Kit a dynamic new form.

The resulting design puts the user first. It stands on end for ease of storage; the built in handle provides grab and go efficiency while maintaining the smallest possible profile; the colour scheme is an eye-catching red and white, and the cross is brought back front and center.

Design can really make a difference窶ヲ

Chip Kidd has a new book!

Advertisement from The Learners: A Novel, design by Chip Kidd, 2008.

OUR STORY: It is the fall of 1961, in New Haven, Connecticut. Happy, the narrator of The Cheese Monkeys, has graduated from State with a Bachelor of Art’s degree (emphasis in Graphic Design) and has sought and found employment as a deputy lay-out artist at the small advertising agency of Spear, Rakoff and Ware. At this point in the book the firm is desperately trying to win the account for Buckle Shoes, a large footwear manufacturer that has just moved into town. And so, Happy and his colleague — the junior copywriter Tip Skikne — have placed an advertisement in the local paper to solicit opinions from prospective customers to help inform their pitch. Above is the ad as it ran.

Sequel to Cheese Monkeys. Read more of the excerpt after the jump.

Vintage Office Supplies aka ISBN number 978-4-87758-656-0

I have no idea what the title of this book is and I can't read a lick of it, but it's full of images of vintage office supplies. Very inspiring if you're an office supply nerd like me. If you want to get the book, just give this ISBN number 978-4-87758-656-0 to Kinokuniya.
