Johan Lorbeer: Still Life

Johan Lorbeer is a German street performer. He became famous in the past few years because of his “Still-Life” Performances, which took place in the public area. His installations includes “Proletarian Mural” and “Tarzan”, which are famous in Germany. Several of these performances feature Lorbeer in an apparently impossible position.

With his still-life performances, this German artist seems to unhinge the laws of gravity. For hours on time, he remains, as a living work of art, in physically impossible positions. Elevated or reduced to the state of a sculpture, he interacts with the bewildered and irritated audience, whose appetite for communication rises as time goes by, often culminating in the wish to touch the artist in his superhuman, angelic appearance in order to participate in his abilities.

against the ugliness

“The life of a designer is a life of fight. Fight against the ugliness. Just like a doctor fights against disease. For us, the visual disease is what we have around, and what we try to do is cure it somehow with design” - Massimo Vignelli in the film Helvetica

Hyper Island

It seems there's a digital art school in Sweden with some very inteligent work coming out of it.
The methodology of Hyper Island is well thought through in relation to our main aim - to educate great talent to the digital and interactive media industry and to support people becoming experienced team players with a huge amount of self insight, self leadership and understanding of human relations and communication.

To sum up the methodology, Hyper Island is about:

-Active participation and learning by experiencing, doing and reflecting.
-Trial and error. Mistakes are often the strongest learning experience.
-Working and developing as an individual in teams.
-Using interactive media as a tool for implementing change and improvement.
-Guidance to self insight and group dynamics.
-Real clients, real needs, real learning.

Here's a little video

I’m not an artist - The Musical

A mini musical written and directed by Soon in Tokyo® for Elisava (a
design school from Barcelona). This two minutes music video is part of a
campaign that questions the idea of the designer as an artist, describing
the designer as a professional worker by means of an ironically "artistic"
piece.

Production: Nuria Guinovart

Children & Proverbs

Children & Proverbs

A first grade teacher collected well known proverbs. She gave each child in her class the first half of a proverb and asked them to come up with the remainder of the proverb. Their insight may surprise you.

Better to be safe than....................Punch a 5th grader
Strike while the .........................Bug is close
It's always darkest before............... Daylight Savings Time
Never underestimate the power of..........Termites
You can lead a horse to water but........how?
Don't bite the hand that................. looks dirty
No news is................................impossible
A miss is as good as a...................Mr.
You can't teach an old dog new............math
If you lie down with dogs, you'll.........stink in the morning
Love all, trust..........................me
The pen is mightier than the..............pigs
An idle mind is..........................The best way to relax
Where there's smoke there's...............pollution
Happy the bride who.......................gets all the presents
A penny saved is..........................not much
Two's company, three's....................the Musketeers
Don't put off till tomorrow what..........you put on to go to bed
Laugh and the whole world laughs with you, cry and.......you have to blow your nose.
None are so blind as......................Stevie Wonder
Children should be seen and not...........spanked or grounded
If at first you don't succeed.............get new batteries
You get out of something what you.........see pictured on the box
When the blind leadeth the blind..........get out of the way

And the favorite:

Better late than.........................pregnant.
